Zombie got your tongue or lengua or shita?

See what I did there? “Tongue” as in synonym for “Language”? I’m here all night folks. Anyway, in keeping with the latest trend in zombie flicks, it’s kind of fun to know that there’s an whole un-dead world out there with movies from all corners of the globe that celebrate the really fun genre. Why does this matter? Well, if you’re in the process of learning a new language – or even considering it – try some exposure to your language of choice in a fun, entertaining, different, scary and bloody way.

While most of us know about the more popular English language zombie flicks like: Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Night of The Living Dead, Sean of the Dead (my personal favorite) and many others – there are also some really awesome zombie flicks in languages other than English. If you’re learning Japanese, try “Nihombie” or “Stacy” (this is a weird one). French zombie movies include “The Grapes of Death” (worst play on words since the title of this blog post). For those learning Spanish, movies like “REC” and “Juan of the Dead” (which I will be seeing soon) can be a fun way to exercise your understanding of the language.

Have fun and don’t scare yourself too much…brains! cervelli! sesos! cerveaux!

Can Polyglots Avoid the Zombie Apocalypse?

People who learn more than one language are actually able to ‘grow’ their brain – probably making them more appealing to those zombies.

Learning a foreign language – or languages – has been shown to cause greater activity and ‘growth’ in various areas of your brain. The results of this type of activity helps to the effects of aging of the brain, fights onset of dementia, makes you overall smarter, better looking and pretty tasty to zombies. (I made up those last two.)

Take a langauge lesson and get started on boosting your brain function and grow your brain! Instead of a taste of brain, about a taste of Spanish?

Use the Lingo Jingo flash cards tool for faster language learning

Many of us have experience with using flash cards in educational settings both as a study aid and as an ‘in class’ resource. Why is this? Because they work! Flash cards, frankly, “keep it simple”. When you’re learning a new language a lot of the initial education is going to be establishing a base of vocabulary words that will become a foundation for your continued language acquisition. With Lingo Jingo we have vocabulary lessons of many languages that are within a particular context, as our philosophy is that to quickly acquire language skills it’s best to learn a language within the context of the situation that you’ll be in while traveling to a different country, for example. You’ll either go to restaurants, go to the beach, get money from a bank, order a drink in a bar, and on and on – you’ll be in countless situations where context is key. But I digress, flash cards are an incredibly easy, efficient and effective method to use to help reinforce what you’re learning in your Lingo Jingo lessons. We offer a way of creating your own in the app and that is by using your Lingo Jingo Phrasebook! You can access your Phrasebook upon login at the following link: http://lingo-jingo.com/Phrasebook

Once you’re there you’ll find all of the courses that exist in Lingo Jingo.

Our filters allow you to zero in on only those courses that exist in the language you are learning, so for example you want to see courses in Spanish simply set your filter to your language and dialect preference:

You’ll see all of our Spanish courses, lessons and will be able to view all of the vocabulary words and terms that are within these lessons – each with an option to “Download Words”:

Click the “Download Words” link at any point in a course, lesson or in the word list themselves and Lingo Jingo will create a document that you can use as a flash card tool which gives you the vocabulary word in the language of origin, phonetic spelling and english translation:

And presto! An automated way inside of Lingo Jingo to create effective and easy study tools for your goal of learning a new language. Create your flash cards through this process and you’ll find your scores in our lessons improve and, more importantly, your ability to retain what you’re learning to improve as well. Give it a go and please feel free to provide any and all feedback that you might have.

Gracias y adios!
